Zusammenfassung:Uses place names from Mercator's 1595 "Atlas" to identify his sources other than Saxton's "Britannia". Two types of name are studied; coastal and offshore features; and names in the northernmost map denoting minor settlements, rivers, valleys, and hills. Suggests that Mercator had different reasons for the two groups. For coastal features, the importance of the junction between land and sea, and for the northern map, his practice of trying to distribute geographical data evenly across the map sheet.
