Teaching the technique of patterned note making

The author has extensive experience of teaching intensive courses of study skills, and discusses the origins of the techniques taught, and the course format. The presentation of patterned note techniques to students is described, with a discussion of the rules and the results of the method. The problems of learning the method, which often involves major changes of thinking habits, are outlined.
