A Study of Teacher Educators: Research from the USA

The paper describes those aspects of the annual reports for eight years of the Research About Teacher Education (RATE) Committee of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) which deal with the teacher education professoriate and relates them to scholarly works in the field. The authors find consistency among studies, continued complexity of role for teacher educators, differentiation among faculty in different levels of higher education, and unevenness in scholarship. They conclude that more in-depth study is necessary.
