Zusammenfassung:The growth performances, phenological and pomological characteristics of four loquat (Eriobotrya japonica) cultivars, 'Kanro', 'Baffico', 'Dr. Trabut', and 'Gold Nugget', were studied between 1996 and 2000 in the Mediterranean climate in Kirikhan, Hatay, Turkey. Among the loquat cultivars tested, the biggest trunk diameter and annual shoot growths were measured in 'Kanro' whereas 'Baffico' was found to be the earliest, and 'Kanro' to be the latest ripening cultivar. The largest fruit size was obtained from 'Dr. Trabut', whereas the smallest fruit size from 'Baffico'. 'Dr. Trabut' had the highest seed number and seed weight, and the lowest value of the flesh/seed ratio was calculated in this cultivar. The ratio of flesh to seed was highest in 'Kanro'. The highest total soluble solids (TSS) content was observedin 'Baffico' (11.77%), whereas the lowest TSS was recorded in 'Kanro' (9.09%). The results suggest that these cultivars can be successfully grown in a Mediterranean climate. Adaptation of the cultivars to the region is also most likely to increase the production and quality of loquat.
