New Examples of tris Organosilylboranes

The preparation of tris organosilylboranes of the general formula (YSiMe 2 CH 2 ) 3 B, I, where Y = Me 3 Si-, Me 3 SiO- and halogen is described. A Grignard synthesis serves for the preparation of the Y = F-, Me 3 Si- and Me 3 SiO- compounds. Using the Me 3 SiO-compound, the cleavage of the disiloxane units with boron trihalides allows the preparation of the halogen derivatives. Kinetic studies on the air oxidation of the Me 3 SiO- compound show the reaction to be first order in borane. The preparation of the linear polymers Cl(SiMe 2 CH 2 ) n Cl, n = 3, 4, 5, and 6, is described.
