An Efficient Synthetic Sequence for Sondheimer's Onocerin Intermediate. A Clarification

The purpose of this communication is to describe an efficient, low-cost, large-scale preparation of decalone 2 which was first prepared by Sondheimer and Elad in eleven steps from the Wieland-Mischer ketone 1 . Later, this route (1←2) was modified by several groups but all these procedures have suffered from the dis- advantage that the catalytic hydrogenation of the double bond present in the various intermediates was not stereospecific.
