Reaction of Gold's Reagent with Activated Methylene Groups Derived from Esters and Nitroarenes

A series of esters and nitrotoluenes were reacted with Gold's reagent under basic conditions and were found to produce the corresponding dimethylamino methylenenated product in both cases.
