Synthesis of 3,4-Bis (4′-Methylphenyl) Thieno [2,3-b]Thiophene: First Example of Peri-Diaryl Thienothiophene

3,4-bis(4′-methylphenyl) thienothiophene, the first example of peri-(3,4) diaryl thienothiophene has been synthesized by a sequence involving preparation of ketene dithioacetal, Dieckmann type cyclization, ester hydrolysis and decarboxylation.
