Optical observations from Western Samoa of the artificial auroral display, 9 July 1962

Photographic observations in colour and black-and-white, with spectrographic observations, were made of the 9 July 1962 artificial aurora from Western Samoa. The position and nature of various features are described, and the white ray extending from above Johnston Island to near Samoa is discussed.
