Zusammenfassung: | Characteristics of wastewater influents are well documented for facilities in many parts of the world. However, there is not an extensive literature dealing with wastewaters generated in central and western Africa. It can be expected that further development and public health considerations will give impetus to more sophisticated wastewater treatment. The Obafemi Awolowo University is served by a stabilization pond. At present, this is regarded as adequate. In future years it may well be necessary to upgrade the level of treatment and the bases upon which design decisions will be made are strength and type of waste. Analyses were made of water quality of the receiving stream above the existing stabilization pond, downstream of the effluent discharge and pond influent and effluent. Analyses were in accordance with Standard Methods. |
