Effects of methoxinine, an analogue of methionine, on the growth and morphology of wool fibres [sheep]

In Merinos, intravenous methoxinine reduced the rate of fibre production, caused a prolonged reduction in crimp frequency, and produced deformed and weakened fibres. The affected wool had some of the appearance of 'steely' wool, but no evidence of a mediating copper deficiency was found. None of the effects was prevented by concurrent cysteine treatment.
