Zusammenfassung: | Quasielastic light scattering has been used to study the splay mode of p-azoxyanisole (PAA) and mixtures of a thermotropic main chain polymer liquid crystal, DDA9, with PAA in the nematic phase. The splay viscosity of the mixtures is substantially enhanced with respect to that of PAA. Of the two mixtures studied, the temperature dependence of the splay mode decay rate for the mixture with the higher polymer concentration shows behavior atypical of conventional low molecular weight liquid crystals. |
