Zusammenfassung:A new flow–drift technique for the investigation of ion–molecule reactions in the near thermal range, somewhat similar to the NOAA flow drift technique, is presented. Data on Ar+ reactions with H2, O2 and CO2 obtained to check the system agree well with recent NOAA results. The investigations of the first reactions of Ar++ with O2, CO2, and C2H2 show single charge transfers to be the only existing reaction channels, capture of two electrons by the Ar++ not being observed to occur. By contrast H2 showed no sign of reacting at all with Ar++ at rates within the range of these measurements.
