Coercivity enhancement in Pr-Fe-B magnets with small additions of Cu and Zn
Addition of small amounts of Cu and Zn was found to enhance the coercivity Hc of Pr-Fe-B melt-spun magnets. 1.5% Cu addition increases the coercivity by 6 kOe over the Cu free value of 18 kOe while 3% Zn increases Hc by 8 kOe. Both of the additions cause a reduction in grain size, and lead to distur...

Zusammenfassung: | Addition of small amounts of Cu and Zn was found to enhance the coercivity Hc of Pr-Fe-B melt-spun magnets. 1.5% Cu addition increases the coercivity by 6 kOe over the Cu free value of 18 kOe while 3% Zn increases Hc by 8 kOe. Both of the additions cause a reduction in grain size, and lead to disturbed lattice planes at grain boundaries and to thin PrCu(Zn) layers which are partially surrounding the 2:14:1 grains. The enhancement in coercivity is believed to be the result of these microstructural changes at the grain boundaries. |
