On the Magnetic Susceptibility of Xenon Tetrafluoride

The magnetic susceptibility of XeF4 has been treated theoretically in the LCAO—MO approximation with particular emphasis placed on the calculation of the high-frequency elements in the paramagnetic part of the susceptibility. The results are in good agreement with a recently observed susceptibility value and suggests that a previously proposed MO scheme is consistent in accounting for the magnetic properties of the molecule. A small ring current has also been calculated, thus substantiating the delocalized MO description advanced by other investigators.
