Zusammenfassung:V 4+ doped YAlO3, LaGaO3, and CaYAlO4 crystals (3d1 ion in octahedral coordination) have been grown and characterized as potential broadband laser materials using optical and electron paramagnetic resonance techniques. The effect of charge compensation on the vanadium valence state and spectroscopic properties of the materials are discussed.
