The laparoscopic approach to cholecystectomy is becoming a simple and safe way to perform this procedure. Since this technique is rather new, it may result in unforeseen complications. We encountered a woman in whom an abscess developed inside a dermoid cyst four months after laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Two gallstones were embedded in the abscess cavity.
A 53-year-old woman underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy because of empyema of the gallbladder. In the course of the operation a few stones were noted to have fallen onto the omentum; they were collected and drawn out. The patient was treated with antibiotics after surgery . . . |
