Zusammenfassung:To the Editor: In a letter to the Journal (July 15, 1982, issued), Kwok et al. 1 reported on retinal cotton-wool spots caused by Pneumocystis carinii in a male homosexual with P. carinii pneumonia. Their report was followed by a number of letters that questioned and even expressed doubts about their findings. Holland et al. 2 had "grave reservations concerning this apparent association," and Sobel 3 stated that "their proof is not convincing." We studied a 32-year-old male homosexual with symptoms of fever, fatigue, left upper quadrant pain, lymphadenopathy, and splenomegaly of five months' duration who was hospitalized in October 1985 for splenectomy. . . .
