Another Whipple-Like Disease in AIDS?

To the Editor: Rhodococcus equi (Corynebacterium equi) has recently been added to the catalog of opportunistic pulmonary infections observed in patients with AIDS (Jan. 2 issue). 1 We wish to describe the pathologic features of infection with R. equi in a patient with the AIDS-related complex. A young homosexual man was admitted to the hospital after having had fevers (to 39.4°C) for three weeks that did not respond to antibiotic therapy; a wedge-shaped, dense infiltrate of the left upper lobe was seen on chest radiography.
