Benign Liver Tumor after Chorionic Gonadotropin Administration

To the Editor: Since the observation by Baum et al. 1 of a relation between oral contraceptives and hepatic adenoma, many similar reports have been published. 2 3 4 A role of oral contraceptives in the development of focal nodular hyperplasia 2 , 5 , 6 and hepatocellular carcinoma 7 , 8 has also been suggested. Hepatic hyperplasia, peliosis, adenoma, and hepatocellular carcinoma 9 after androgenic and other anabolic steroid treatments have been reported. We describe the following case because it appears to represent the occurrence of a benign liver tumor after chorionic gonadotropin administration. A 20-year-old man was operated on for varicocele.
