Zusammenfassung:To the Editor: According to the article in the January 28 issue by Vidt et al., 1 the risk of a hypotensive response to the initiation of captopril therapy can be minimized by discontinuing other antihypertensive agents for "several days." This statement is purely theoretical, given the current indications for the clinical use of captopril, which is recommended for severe drug-resistant hypertension or complicated forms of hypertension — situations in which the discontinuation of previous therapy for "several days" is hardly justifiable and, frankly, impractical except in a hospital setting.
