Zusammenfassung:A comparison between ERCP practices in 1996 and 2002 was performed in a tertiary referral hospital. The number of procedures performed decreased from 768 in 1996 to 541 in 2002 (29.6% decrease). The average age in 1996 was 66 years (median 69 years and range 17–94 years) and 52 years in 2002 (median 65 years and range 24–93 years). The redo rate was similar 19.34% (148) in 1996 and 19.96% (108) in 2002. In 1996 there were 321 repeat procedures recommended and this decreased to 120 in 2002. The number of sphincterotomies performed decreased between 1996 and 2002 (179 vs. 104 respectively (23.3% vs. 19.2% of total procedures). In 1996 213 biliary strictures were reported Vs 165 in 2002 (27.4% vs. 30.4%). 83 stents were inserted in 2002 vs. 75 in 1996 (0.15% vs. 0.1%). In conclusion, the number of procedures, especially procedures reported as normal, decreased from 1996–2002. Average patient age also decreased. Therapeutic procedures were more common in 2002. This may reflect greater use of EUS and MRCP.
