Photochemical Synthesis of N-Substituted 3-Hydroxy-2-pyrrolidinones

Abstract A new three-step synthesis to 3-hydroxy-2-pyrrolidi­nones starting from β-amino acids has been developed. The key step is a novel reductive photocyclization.
