Abstract The AB (C 1 -C 13 ) and CD (C 17 -C 29 ) spiroketal of spongi­statin 1 were prepared diastereoselectively from SYN- and ANTI-3,5-dihydroxy-6-heptenoate derived from 2-deoxy-D-ribose.
