Overshoot and settling time assignment with PID for first-order and second-order systems

Many methods have been proposed to design proportional–integral–derivative (PID) controllers for various classes of linear systems. However, there has not yet been any method that deals concurrently with assignments of both overshoot and settling time of closed-loop systems. In this study, a PID con...

Zusammenfassung:Many methods have been proposed to design proportional–integral–derivative (PID) controllers for various classes of linear systems. However, there has not yet been any method that deals concurrently with assignments of both overshoot and settling time of closed-loop systems. In this study, a PID controller design method is proposed to achieve both desired overshoot and expected settling time at the same time for certain classes of linear systems. Some examples are given to illustrate the proposed method and compare it with the other existing methods in terms of performance. The obtained results from the examples are based on simulation.
