Large Amounts of Ribosomal RNA in Colchicine-induced Tetraploids of Solanum tuberosum L

CHANGES of ploidy cause various phenotypic effects, and alterations in metabolism have also been noted 1–5 . These alterations are reflected in differences in concentration of certain metabolites in the various ploid levels. The variation in amount of a given metabolite depends on genotype and species involved 4,5 . A consistent relationship has, however, been established between the amount of DNA and ploid level regardless of genotype 6,7 . This communication presents a relationship between ploid level, DNA content, and RNA fractions in 2 n and 4 n potato analogues.
