observed that pendent drops containing solute which diffuses into the surrounding continuous phase sometimes showed ripples and pulsations at the interface; this was associated with increased rates of mass transfer. We have observed similar behaviour with pendent drops of nitrobenzene, chlorobenzene, carbon tetrachloride and chloroform containing, as solutes, acetone, ethyl alcohol, methyl alcohol and
iso
propyl alcohol. The concentration of solute varied between 2 and 30 per cent. |
