Investigation of Travelling Disturbances in the Ionosphere by Continuous-Wave Radio

OBSERVATIONS on the horizontal movements in the F -region of the ionosphere by radio methods using the pulse method of ionospheric sounding, and also by employing a precision direction-finding technique, have been made during the past few years 1–7 . The present communication reports the results of recent investigations on travelling disturbances in the ionosphere obtained by a new and simple method in which use has been made of the continuous-wave radio signals from a distant short-wave transmitter.
