Zusammenfassung:ALTHOUGH several methods have been used for the photo-elastic determination of stresses at a free boundary, none has proved satisfactory because these methods are based on an extrapolation procedure which cannot be applied to a region where the magnitudes or directions of the stresses are rapidly changing. The following method permits a much closer approach to the solution of boundary stresses.
