Zusammenfassung:RECENT publications show that at long last there is a flood-movement in British geological research towards the accumulation of increasingly precise quantitative data. The transition from the qualitative phase, painfully slow at first, has lately been accelerated in most branches of the science. This limited progress is especially marked in sedimentary petrology, where Fleet, Butterneld, Smith-son and Walder have raised a banner which all must surely follow.
