The synthesis and structural characterization of an unsolvated lanthanide half-sandwich compound of composition [DanipOSmCp*]2 (1) is reported featuring a novel dianionic partially demethylated donor-functionalized terphenyl ligand [DanipO = 2-(o-anisyl)-6-(o-2-phenoxide)phenyl].
