Manganese tricarbonyl and methylmolybdenum tricarbonyl derivatives of the as-indacene bridging ligand

Deprotonation of 1,6-dihydro-2,7-dimethyl-as-indacene (1) with tert-butyllithium yields the 2,7-dimethyl-as-indacene dianion (2). Reaction of 2 with molybdenum hexacarbonyl followed by methyl iodide yields (2,7-dimethyl-as-indacene)bis(methylmolybdenum tricarbonyl) (3). An X-ray structural study of...

Zusammenfassung:Deprotonation of 1,6-dihydro-2,7-dimethyl-as-indacene (1) with tert-butyllithium yields the 2,7-dimethyl-as-indacene dianion (2). Reaction of 2 with molybdenum hexacarbonyl followed by methyl iodide yields (2,7-dimethyl-as-indacene)bis(methylmolybdenum tricarbonyl) (3). An X-ray structural study of 3 indicates it has a trans disposition of molybdenum groups with respect to the planar tricyclic ligand. Reaction of 2 with bis(pyridine)manganese tricarbonyl bromide at low temperature yields a mixture of cis and trans isomers of (2,7-dimethyl-as-indacene)bis(manganese tricarbonyl) that were chromatographically separated. An X-ray structural study of the cis isomer indicates considerable steric interaction between the manganese tricarbonyl groups and a bending of the as-indacene bridging ligand to accommodate this.
