Comments on Purser's Article: "Lewis Structures are Models for Predicting Molecular Structure, Not Electronic Structure"

Some time ago in this Journal, Purser expressed strong views on the proper teaching of Lewis structures. Because his criticisms are based on substantial factual misrepresentations and errors, it seemed desirable to call attention to a few of the conspicuous misstatements in order that readers may judge the opinions and conclusions from a more informed perspective.
