13C NMR spectra of styrene derivatives: An undergraduate experiment involving the application of the Hammett equation

The basis for this experiment is the observation that for meta- and para-substituted styrene derivatives the magnitude of the 13C shielding value for the beta-carbon is linearly related to the alpha for the ring substituent.
