Surgery approach to Rudyak's conjecture

Using the surgery we prove the following: Theorem 0.1Letf:M→Nbe a normal map of degree one between closed smooth manifolds with N being(r−1)-connected,r⩾1. If N satisfies the inequalitydim⁡N⩽2rcat(N)−3, thencat(M)⩾cat(N).
