Zusammenfassung: | Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems are valuable for managing glucose levels. They provide insight into how glucose is affected by factors such as physical activity, drugs, and food intake. However, the lifetime of commercially implanted CGM sensors has been limited to around 15 days due to tissue rejection. As an important part of sensors, the outer membrane selection deters sensors' lifetime and in vivo stability. In this study, a biocompatible outer membrane based on the blending of Chronosil and HydroMed is developed and investigated on the glucose sensors. Results show that the sensors on non-diabetic beagles can work for at least 21 days with accurate results. This new material could extend the lifetime of implanted CGM sensors and improve in vivo stability, making them more useful for managing diabetes.

•The CGM sensors modified with HMD/CS blending outer membrane extend their lifetime to 21 days with acceptable in vivo stability. Their lifetime exceeds that of the commercial CGM electrochemical sensors, which only have a lifetime of 15 days.•The outer membrane is cheap and easy-accessible.•The outer membrane modification method is reproducible, cost-effective, and rapid for large-scale production. |
