Zusammenfassung:A method is proposed for determining the coefficient of linear tension of a droplet cluster from the relaxation time of the nonequilibrium geometric shape of the cluster to the equilibrium shape in the form of a circle. The relaxation time was measured and the value of the tension coefficient was determined. The suitability of the electrostatic mechanism for explaining the nature of the existence of a droplet cluster has been quantitatively tested. The possibility of the influence of ordered droplet structures on the surface tension of atmospheric clouds is estimated. •A new experimental technique has been developed.•The coefficient of surface tension of the droplet cluster is determined.•The electrostatic mechanism of surface tension is numerically verified.•Estimated surface tension of clouds.
