Zusammenfassung: | Probiotics and omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids supplementation (PUFA) have beneficial effect on obesity related disorders in animal models.
A total of 54 patients met the criteria and were included in double-blind single centre RCT, to receive “Symbiter-Omega” (combination of multiprobiotics with omega-3 PUFA) or placebo for 8-weeks administered as a sachet formulation. The primary main outcome was the change HOMA2-IR.
Combined use of the probiotic mixture with omega-3 PUFA leads to a significant reduction of HOMA2-IR (р = 0.018) and improvement of insulin sensitivity (% S) (p = 0.010) after 8 weeks of treatment period. Simultaneously were detected lowering of HbA1c from 8.26 ± 0.82 to 7.80 ± 0.86% (р = 0.006). In secondary outcome analysis significant decrease of body weight, BMI and markers of chronic systemic inflammation in comparison with placebo were found.
Probiotic combination with omega-3 PUFA modestly improved insulin resistance and obesity related parameters in patients with type 2 diabetes.

•Probiotic with omega-3 PUFA as single formulation leads to a significant reduction of HOMA2-IR after 8 weeks of intervention.•Simultaneously after probiotic/omega-3 PUFA supplementation significant lowering of HbA1c was stated.•Probiotic/omega-3 PUFA lead to significant decrease of anthropometric indices and reduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines .•Probiotic/omega-3 PUFA remained within safe levels throughout the intervention. |
