Zusammenfassung:•Annealing behavior of Mg-1.0Ca sheet is studied along two compressive directions.•Discontinuous SRX mechanism controls the annealing behavior of RD-compressed sample.•Continuous SRX mechanism controls the annealing behavior of ND-compressed sample.•Fine grains grow more slowly during the annealing of RD-compressed sample.•Mg-Ca alloy with great thermal stability is hoped to serve as heat-resistant product. This short communication reports the grain growth behaviors and static recrystallization mechanisms of Mg-1.0 wt%Ca sheet after hot-compression along rolling direction (RD) and normal direction (ND), respectively. The results strongly suggest that Mg-1.0 wt%Ca alloy owns excellent thermal stability and has the potential to serve as heat-resistant products.
