Zusammenfassung:The high-temperature oxidation behaviors and oxide film characteristics as well as corrosion protection of AZ80 and AZ80–0.75Gd (wt%) alloys were investigated to research the effect of Gd addition on oxidation resistance and oxide film corrosion protection performance of AZ80 alloy. The results showed that with 0.75 wt% Gd alloying, Gd2O3 appeared in oxide film, which promoted densification of oxide film and translation of the superlinear rate law oxidation kinetics to approximate parabolic rate law oxidation kinetics of alloy. And after erosion of oxide film containing Gd2O3, the corrosion products were extensively nodulated, resulting in corrosion passivation and showing protection effect. •The oxidation kinetics of AZ80 alloy was changed with Gd alloying.•The corrosion protection performance of oxide film contained Gd2O3 was researched.•Corrosion products were extensively nodulated, resulting in corrosion passivation.
