Zusammenfassung:MXene-derived materials as a high performance electrode, adsorbent and photocatalyst is a key component in the field of energy storage, conversion and pollution control. This review provides an overview of the recent advances in the fundamental understanding, synthesis and properties of MXene-derived materials. The applications of MXene-derived material in environment (degradation of pollutants, adsorption, capacitive desalination, sensors and photocatalytic carbon dioxide reduction) and energy fields (battery, capacitor, nitrogen fixation and hydrogen evolution) are also summarized. Several future research challenges are provided to further promote the development and research of MXenes derivative materials. It is hoped that this review will arouse the interest of scientists and engineers engaged in environmental governance and energy storage technology. [Display omitted] •The property, synthesis and application of MXene-derived material are reviewed.•Novel 2D MXenes are excellent precursors for derived materials.•MXene has positive effects on the morphology and property of derivatives.•MXene derivatives show great potential in environment and energy applications.•Systematic and professional evaluation of MXene-derived materials is summarised.
