In the present work we discuss the preparation of a copper dopped layered double hydroxide composite (Fe3O4@CuMgAl-LDH/IMIL) for the synthesis of 5-substituted-1H-tetrazoles from aryl halides. Utilization of K4[Fe(CN)6] as a safe cyanide source in the presence of Fe3O4@CuMgAl-LDH/IMIL catalyst induced the catalytic [2+3]-cycloaddition of a wide range of aryl halides with NaN3 towards the sequential one-pot preparation of 5-substituted-1H-tetrazoles with good yields. The true heterogeneous nature of the catalyst was confirmed by catalyst recyclability for consecutive 8 times, hot filtration and leaching tests.
