Diversity of flavonoids profile in sexually dimorphic clones of betle vine [Piper betle L.] genotypes based on liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry [LCMS/MS]

Twenty sexually dimorphic genotypes of betle vine were evaluated for flavonoids using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry and ten flavonoid compounds, such as catechin, epicatechin, rutin, myricetin, leutolin, quercetin, apigenin, kaempferol, umbelliferone and naringenin were identified. The tot...

Zusammenfassung:Twenty sexually dimorphic genotypes of betle vine were evaluated for flavonoids using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry and ten flavonoid compounds, such as catechin, epicatechin, rutin, myricetin, leutolin, quercetin, apigenin, kaempferol, umbelliferone and naringenin were identified. The total flavonoid index of Sirugamini-1 (165.74 μg/g) and IIHR-BV-67 (74.03 μg/g) was at higher amount. The gender-based diversity witnessed high concentrations of total flavonoids among the females over male genotypes. However, irrespective of gender, two flavonoid compounds namely luteolin and kaempferol were identified as major compounds. Hierarchical clustering of the flavonoid profiles resulted in diverged genotypes and was evident in principal component analysis. [Display omitted] •The total flavonoid index of female genotypes was higher than the male genotypes.•The highest amounts of quercetin and catechin were observed in the male genotypes.•The genotypes Sirugamani-1 and IIHR-BV-67 can be exploited for industrial uses.•The high flavonoids diversity be exploited for the diversification of genotypes.
