Patient and staff perceptions of Short Procedural Sedation with Propofol for Joint and Fracture Reductions in the Emergency Department: a qualitative study

•Emergency department propofol sedation is very acceptable to patients and staff.•Clinical staff have good understanding of patient fears before sedation.•Effective treatment of pain is a priority for patients.•Broadening of initial assessment nursing skills may be key for improvement.•Patient priorities need to be better aligned with organisation requirements.
