•WMA and HMA are feasible with high RAP content and WCO as a rejuvenator.•Marshall test is suitable to estimate the WCO content of fully recycled RAP.•Aged and unaged AC with high RAP rate with WCO revealed suitable performance.•RAP with WCO revealed proper behaviour even for low air voids content.•RAP with WCO is suitable for medium / low-traffic road pavements.
This study aims at designing and performing mechanical and functional characterisation of asphalt mixtures with a high rate of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) with waste cooking oil (WCO) as a binder’s rejuvenator. The WCO was added by the dry method and was not subjected to any special previous treatment. Besides the Marshall properties, the mix design was based on wheel tracking and water sensitivity tests. Complementarily, the testing plan included the evaluation of stiffness, resistance to fatigue and functional properties before and after a secondary long-term ageing procedure. The results show that the studied hot and warm-asphalt mixtures with 80 and 60% of RAP are suitable for medium/low-traffic road pavements, even considering a long-term ageing time of 5 years. |
