Zusammenfassung:•The optical shielding pavement coatings were prepared with Cs0.3WO3.•The change law of optical shielding performance of the coating was studied.•Optical shielding is an effective measure to reduce the temperature of asphalt pavement. Asphalt pavement absorbs more than 90% of solar radiation, which induces a series of issues. To solve these problems, a novel optical shielding pavement coating with nano-tungsten bronze (MxWO3) was developed, of which the M were Na+, K+ and Cs+ respectively. It was found that the coatings have excellent shielding effect on all spectrum, especially with 6 wt% dosage of CsxWO3, which can prevent 98% of the light waves from penetrating the coating. The cooling test results showed that the coating reduced the internal temperature of asphalt slabs by 2.6 ℃ without a significant deterioration of their skidding performance.
