Zusammenfassung: | The fabella is a sesamoid bone which is embedded in the lateral head of the gastrocnemius muscle. The aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency of the fabella presence and the interaction between the presence of the fabella and osteoarthritis. Following the approval of the Review Boards, a total of 1000 patient records, including age and gender data of the patients, and bilateral knee radiographs taken between January 2014 and January 2019 were randomly obtained from the hospital database and enrolled in the study. The presence of fabella was detected by a radiologist and an orthopedic surgeon. The overall prevalence of fabella was 24.3%, with a frequency of 25.8% in females and 20.6% in males. The prevalence of bilateral fabella was significantly higher than unilateral cases ([right or left fabella],
