Revision of the ‘Polygala herbiola group’ (Polygalaceae): a new species and a new variety

Summary The delimitation of Polygala herbiola (series Trichospermae ) is revised from a morphological perspective, resulting in a new species, Polygala michelliana , and a new variety, P. herbiola var. minensis . Polygala michelliana is endemic to the mountain range Chapada dos Veadeiros, Goiás state, whereas the new variety, P. herbiola var. minensis , occurs in the Serra da Canastra and Serra do Espinhaço, both in Minas Gerais state. A full description, taxonomic key, distribution map, and morphological plates are provided for the two varieties of Polygala herbiola and its two allied species, P. michelliana and P. chapadensis .
