Cytocompatibility Evaluation of Ti-6Al-4V Alloy After Gas Oxynitriding

The oxynitriding of Ti-6Al-4V alloy was realized by thermodiffusion saturation of non-stoichiometric titanium nitride by oxygen (P(O 2 ) = 10 −3 to 1 Pa). The oxygen content in TiN x O 1− x increased by increasing P(O 2 ) and it led to transformation into TiO 2 as follows: TiN 0.46 O 0.54 → TiN 0.42...

Zusammenfassung:The oxynitriding of Ti-6Al-4V alloy was realized by thermodiffusion saturation of non-stoichiometric titanium nitride by oxygen (P(O 2 ) = 10 −3 to 1 Pa). The oxygen content in TiN x O 1− x increased by increasing P(O 2 ) and it led to transformation into TiO 2 as follows: TiN 0.46 O 0.54 → TiN 0.42 O 0.58 → TiN 0.36 O 0.64 + TiO 2 . It caused an increase in the viability of pseudonormal human cells of HEK293T line after 8 days of testing. TiN 0.36 O 0.64 + TiO 2 coating exhibited normal morphology and provided 1.2-fold higher cytocompatibility compared to Ti-6Al-4V alloy. This coating can be recommended for further in-depth testing as bio-implant material.
