Simple pseudo-multicomponent synthesis of 2,6-dicyanoaniline derivatives via reaction between arylidenemalononitriles and malononitrile

This work described a simple and efficient method for the synthesis of some 2,6-dicyanoaniline derivatives. This reaction carried out between arylidenemalononitrile and excess malononitrile in the presence of sodium hydroxide in ethanol at room temperature to afford the aromatic products in good to excellent yields. The experimental work-up of this method is very easy and the only reaction product was obtained in crystalline form. Graphical Abstract
